Friday brought a wonderful rainy day..you know, those that you have in late Fall and early Winter when it rains a slow quiet rain all day. So wonderful. So peaceful. So much work getting done..until at about 3:00 we hear the crash of a vehicle accident not far away.
Out into the rain we go with offers to help. It turns out that one of Rod's worst fears has been realized...luckily by someone other than Rod. The camper of someone who was leaving the campground had come unhitched while in transit. This causes the trailer to drop onto the bed of the truck and in worse cases, on to the ground.
The man was very lucky that the trailer had come loose while he was still in the campground. At high speeds, the trailer is usually destroyed and other accidents can be caused by the careening trailer.
We sent the man to get his trailer hitch fixed while we hooked up to the trailer and maneuvered it back into place. When he returned, Rod discovered that this was the man's first experience with a trailer and that he know nothing about the safeguards of the process. Rod took time to explain some of the finer points that kept him safe when he drove professionally (this is the same type of hitch that the big trucks use...at least in principle).
So I guess if it had to happen to this man, this was the best place for it. With Rod here to help, the situation was easily restored to normal and good lessons were taught. It was definitely a case of "the best place it could have happened"
We continue to be very careful to prevent this from ever happening to us...and we carry good insurance!!
Once all was done, the day finished very quietly..just as it began.
