Let's catch up some

The last couple of weeks have been VERY frustrating with regards to the computer and Internet access. It seemed that if I had a connection to the satellite, I could not connect to this page. Other times I had no connection at all...GRR!! That's why you have not heard from me lately.

Our problems were tracked to a bad drive in our network. It took Rod 5 hours to save what we needed from it...a good lesson in the necessity of backups. All is saved now and the system is running like a champ...YEA!!

We are in Athens, Alabama now visiting with Rod's family. The trip was uneventful. The visit has not been without its excitement though. Bear in mind that we are parked in the driveway at Rod's parents' house.

On our first day here the power went out after quite an explosion right in our front yard. Shortly after that, the fire on the top of the pole made it easy for us to show the power company where the problem was. It took them only a few minutes to fix the problem thus ending all that excitement.

Later that same day storms moved through the area...yes, bright, loud thunder storms. We spent last night in the house rather than in the camper.

To top things off, tonight the cold front is arriving. The winds are up to "rock the camper" level. We're debating the merits of the house again tonight!!

Preparation for Thanksgiving continue. It seems that we are going to have Thanksgiving twice this year. Tomorrow a group is getting together at Rod's Mom's house. It should be interesting as a "Pot Luck" dinner. Saturday we are going to Nashville for a traditional turkey and ham dinner with more of the family. I'm having fun cooking and planning foods for both events. I have not done this in a long time. It's surprising what you can create in the little oven of a camper.

This afternoon I was not sure what state we were in at the moment. Last night lots of new "lakes" appeared after the heavy rains. The photo below was taken in the field next to the house...there was not even a lake there earlier in the day!!
