Fall is upon us

I tell you this not because the weather is so interesting; but to document this unusual summer. So when I'm complaining about the heat next year my blog can remind me of how wonderful this year has been.

Comparing notes with Mosaic Mom today was quite a study in contrasts. The conversation started with gardening tips. Comparing notes on the weather we realized that there are things she cannot grow because of the heat and I cannot grow them because of the cold.

We were at 46 degrees this morning. We will be in the 40s at night for the next several days. Highs will be in the 80s. Frost is expected as early as September 5th (10 days from now) Either we will have a long Indian summer or a long cold winter...I'll keep you posted.

There is no wonder that the squash and beets are not increasing in size and the tomatoes are not ripening. Covers went on tonight. Hopefully I can keep the plants a little warmer to get things to grow a little better.

Still lots to learn about gardening in zone 4. It sure isn't the South...although it is South Dakota.
