Cycles

Weather seems to run in cycles. They may be LONG cycles (100 - 200 years); but often they are short enough that we remember.

DIscussions this week centered around Verterans' Day. One comment noted that four years ago (2005) the temperarture in Rapid City was higher than it was this year when it was again abnormally high.

Well, I remember what else happened four years ago. That was our first winter in the Black Hills. We had just broken ground on the house. Well drilling had just begun. A few days before Thanksgiving, the winds became violent breaking all the styrophoam sheet in the back of the truck. That was a site as all the pieces blew away.

Then the temperatures dropped to the -20 to 10 degree range... yes, highs in the signle digits. We began to wonder what we were doing here.

Then, on December 21.. the first day of winter, the temps rose to 60 degrees. Weather can be unpredictable in South Dakota.

We'll see what the rest of the winter brings.
