Occasionally I work with a customer who ranks as remarkable. I had that pleasure yesterday when I worked with Milo.
Such a gentleman. Generally I don't call my customers by their first name. I don't know these people that well to be that familiar. But with Milo... it will always be Milo and we both were comfortable.
On Milo's birthday last year, he announced at Sunday school that his age is now four score. At that age, he got his ham license only two years ago. That license has been his avenue to making lots of new friends and learning lots of new things. He participates in a net each week and will call that net in July. He is being careful to practice his "alphas" to be sure he uses them correctly (in his life he has known three sets of alpha equivalents for the letters, i.e., A = Alpha, B = Bravo, etc. He wants to be sure he uses those for ham radio and not an inappropriate group. It's refreshing that he cares so much about getting it right.) He has participated in several events in his town, walks, bike rides, runs, where radio operators are stationed along the way to relay information back to base. He described his participation with enthusiasm. It encouraged me to hear him talk.
Milo and I worked on programming his radios. He was not quite as comfortable with the computer as with his radios. He was very willing to do everything I asked. With new technology that lets me connect to his computer, things went smoothly. It was fun... the entire hour of it.
There are times we don't realize how we impact another person. Remember, that even a casual encounter can make such a difference in a life... and sometimes it will be yours.
