Micro Environment

I have always found environmental issues in South Dakota interesting. We'll what I saw today will remain right up there with the top ten for a long time...

It is very much springtime here. Actually, it's early for us to be this warm and sunny. It has brought out birds, animals and some insects...yes, we do have some bugs here...especially bees (actually, I have a neighbor that keeps bees, these may be his).

Anyway, I keep a bird feeder where I can see it from my desk. Watching it today I noticed not only the Nuthatches and chickadees but also a couple of bees flying around it. Now the bees were not just flying. They were methodically flying into the food and throwing out things they did not want...just like the birds do. I can only presume that they were eating (or gathering) things that they wanted...corn, cracked corn and sunflower seeds...I can't imagine what it was other then the dust that covers all the pieces.

Go figure. Glad to see that there was something there for them as well. Always willing to help Mother Nature.
