Ever since I had hydroponic garden a few years ago that had basil as one of the plants, I have wanted fresh basil again. I was spoiled by that flavor and immediate availability.
So, I planted basil to have in the house this winter. It had so much going against it.
First, the pot was not the right size to bring inside. Second, I went away for three weeks shortly after germination (it came back with lots of water).
So, I re-potted some into a planter that will fit where I want to keep it.
It's still alive after three days. If it were philodendron there would be no question. I think there might be hope.
