We will survive

While all of us shiver in the deep freeze of the winter of 2009-10, I suspect the temps and wind chills here in South Dakota might be worse than in other places.

Tonight and tomorrow night wind chills will push 30 below. Yes, that is cold for everybody... including the locals. We all just stay inside and don't think about how much the heat is costing... just that it's warm.

Better than in Florida where they recently planted winter gardens and are watching the citrus crop freeze. At least we expect this and are prepared for it!!!

For me to survive, I must shovel the back deck. I have told you about this before; but it seems that once the deck is cleared, I can survive any storm or cold spell.

Today I shoveled more than just the back deck. I shoveled the walkway at work... three times. The wind just kept putting back what I had cleared. At least the drift was never bigger than about 12 inches and that was this morning before we shoveled the first time.

This is interesting. Sun and a blizzard at the same time. One minute there was beautiful sunshine, the next a total whiteout. Called a "ground blizzard" since the snow was not falling but blowing off the ground.

An interesting new experience. South Dakota is full of them. Come experience them with us... it is really fun in it's own way!!!
