Later...

I was telling this story to someone this evening when I realized that it needed to be documented. It's the lesson of "We'll do it later".

I have heard that phrase all too many time as we have worked on this house. Generally, the thing can wait. This time, waiting caught up with us.

The incident was a result of several "laters". Let me set the stage.

We installed all the feed lines for the heating system. The air pressure test went well. Then we filled the system with water..yes it's a water system that will freeze in the winter if it is not running...but the general idea is that it will be running all the time it's cold.

Anyway, now the system has water in it and we find that we missed one entire section of the house. Work went well to complete this connection. Then the trouble began...

We could not pressure test again with air...there was now water in the system. We could only start the water running through the entire system and hope that there were no leaks...it didn't take long.

Water poured into the basement at about the center of the house. The leak had to be there...right...don't count on it. A 4x6 section of the floor came out looking for the leak...do you think we found it. Of course not.

Then memory struck and we remembered the "later" spot. When we installed the plumbing for the kitchen we had to cut the heating lines. Not only was it not repaired, the floor was put back over it...is that a double or what?!?!? The repair took less then 5 minutes with two joints and four connections. What a mess.

This is one "later" that I hope we do not forget.

This is what the heating system looks like now that it is operational. The yellow hose off the front will come out once all the air in the lines is purged...hopefully tomorrow.
