Real power to the house...in the box...works from the switches...running the pump and light in the pump room...from the box (did I say that).
This is quite a way to celebrate an anniversary. It was a year ago today that we moved the camper to this spot...boy do the years pass quickly!! Today we ran permanent power to the house. The glow of that bare bulb in the socket was one of the most exciting events...we must get out more!!
At 12:30PM today we were committed. We turned off the power and cut the wires to the temporary power in the house. Once this wire was disconnected, we could not reconnect power to the camper without it being connected to something. If we had turned the power back on for the camper, this wire would be live...not a good thing if it's not connected properly.
This wire had snaked across the ground since last year. We have walked on it repeatedly. That always made me a little nervous.
Then the real work began. This wire consists of three strands. Each is about the thickness of your thumb. Each is VERY stiff. Because the box is 30 feet inside the house and we are using underground utilities, we had to put the wire into plastic conduit from the outside wall to the box...what a job..there are definitely tricks to this that we don't know.
The hard part is not a straight run..it's the right angles. The first one took a good hour to overcome. We won to within 1.5 inches and called it good..everything else adjusted from there.
At 6:30, with flashlights burning, Rod made the final connection in the box. I was sent to turn on the power at the pole. All went smoothly. When I returned with the trashcan, Rod thought that I had not even thrown the switch...although I had. Quite was good.
Then we threw three switches...1) the main breaker...all still quite. 2) the circuit to the pump room...no bang or arc...3) the light in the utility room where we were working...and when I threw the switch, the light came on!
Now I feel like we have an accomplishment. On to the heat tomorrow!!
