Twice in one day.....

No not that..and get your mind out of the gutter!!

Vacuuming water out of the house twice in one day is a record I don't want to repeat. As I have said before, don't let anyone tell you that there is a drought in the Black Hills. At least not in Hermosa!!

We vacuumed after rain last night at midnight...we won't go and look next time. Then, later in the day we had 4 inches of rain in 20 minutes. This was a significant rainstorm to say the least!!! We worked for almost three hours getting that water out. Thank goodness for the ShopVac. With rain in the forecast every day for the next week, we now own two of them!!

As for the house and the roof that we so desperately need to keep the rain out...we should have it by Saturday. Roofs are really complicated things. I thought for sure that we could complete then house then add the deck...not. All work stopped on the roof while we built the deck to support the posts to hold the roof...this sounds almost as complicated. We have done pretty well in two days. We will get the beams which are the major supports for the roof installed today. The framers will take it from there on Saturday.

We are using a material on the underside of the roof that reflects the heat back out of the house. It REALLY WORKS!! It's unbelievable how cool it is in the house at this stage...at least everywhere the roof already covers it. I would recommend this stuff to everyone. It can be added easily to any attic.

Other life in SD includes deer. These two bachelors came to visit my corn crib the other day. This would have been fine if they had not eaten all the leaves and silk off the one ear of corn that was growing in the area...Pigs!!! In a few weeks these two will be competitors; but for now they enjoy each other's company.

Off to work...more house to be done!!
